Orr-Weaver to Receive FASEB Excellence in Science Award

The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) has named Whitehead Member Terry Orr-Weaver the recipient of its 2013 Excellence in Science Award.

Whitehead Member Terry Orr-Weaver is the recipient of the 2013 Excellence in Science Award.

Established in 1989, the award is given in recognition of outstanding achievement by women in biological science. Recipients are women whose career achievements have contributed significantly to further our understanding of a particular discipline by excellence in research.

A FASEB selection committee selected Orr-Weaver from a field of 46 nominees. In presenting Orr-Weaver as its choice, selection committee chair Sally Moody, a professor in the Department of Anatomy and Regenerative Biology at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences wrote: “Dr. Orr-Weaver’s scientific research has made her an internationally recognized leader in the field of DNA replication and the cell cycle.” Moody also lauded Orr-Weaver’s “service to the professional community and mentoring of students at all levels.”
