Photos from 2012 Whitehead Symposium

Whitehead Institute’s 1st annual Whitehead Symposium took place on May 3rd and 4th in New York City. The event was a huge success; over 100 people turned out to hear from Whitehead’s world-renowned scientists and learn more about the Institute.

On the evening on May 3rd, Board of Associates Members James and Ruth Scheuer hosted the Symposium kick-off presentation featuring Whitehead Institute Member Richard Young. Dr. Young discussed his latest cancer treatment development efforts in a talk entitled “A New Approach to Fighting Cancer.” Guests conversed and enjoyed cocktails late into the evening–many outside on a magnificent balcony overlooking New York City’s Upper East Side.

The main event of the Whitehead Symposium began on the morning of May 4th, when guests gathered at the New York Yacht Club in Manhattan. Whitehead Institute investigators Yaniv Erlich, Piyush Gupta and Rudolf Jaenisch each presented their latest work, offering attendees insight into the groundbreaking genomic, cancer and stem cell research happening at Whitehead. Following the half-day program, attendees were eager to talk one-on-one with the scientists and stayed into the afternoon for coffee and conversation.

The Whitehead Symposium is held each May in New York City. If you missed this year’s event, but would like to learn more about other Whitehead events including next year’s Symposium, we encourage you to contact Lauren Gilbert at (617) 258-5489 or lgilbert@wi.mit.edu for more information.
